Charles' friend from the Bronx, Irish UFC star surprises by training with rival at event in Europe

Ian Gary surprised by training at Climent Club, the base gym of Ilia Topuria, during a visit to Madrid for the 'WOW 17' event. The action takes place amid public challenges from the Spaniard to Charles of the Bronx, training partner of the Irishman at 'Chute Boxe Diego Lima'. The photo was shared by the coach, Javi Clement, and went viral on social media.

After strengthening ties with the Brazilian team Chute Boxe — where he trains alongside Charles —, Ian landed in Spain to support his teammate Gustavo Gabriel at WOW 17, an event organized by Topuria himself. Taking advantage of his stay, the Irishman accepted the invitation to share the mat with the Spaniard.

The decision drew attention due to its historical context: Topuria, who relinquished his UFC featherweight belt (up to 65,7 kg) in February to move up to lightweight, has repeatedly challenged Do Bronx in recent weeks. The Brazilian, however, seemed unwilling to face him and 'intimated' the UFC for a rematch against Islam makhachev by the belt.

WOW 17, held at the Madrid Arena, served as the backdrop for the meeting. Ian Gary closely followed the victory of Gustavo Gabriel — his teammate at Chute Boxe — over Andrés Leal, in a fight decided on points.
