Just a few days away from trying to win back the featherweight belt (up to 65,7kg) at UFC 314, Alexander Volkanovsky does not hesitate to make statements that require a lot of confidence. Despite coming off two consecutive defeats in his career and being scheduled to face Diego lopes on April 12, the veteran claims that only Islam makhachev can beat him without relying on a well-placed punch.
“I don’t believe anyone can beat me. The only person I can see giving me a tough fight for five rounds is a Islam makhachev in the first, as you saw. Everyone else only has one chance to punch. That's how I always see things. I really believe in that, and that's the confidence I have in myself. No one can defeat me,” Volkanovski told Fox Sports Australia.

When mentioning the 'punch' factor, Volkanovski attributed the episode to Ilia Topuria, the only athlete to knock him out in the UFC after Makhachev. So far, the Georgian Spaniard stands out for having been responsible for ending the Australian's unbeaten streak in the featherweight category. The other two defeats occurred in the lightweight (up to 70,3 kg) when he faced the Russian.
