Renato Moicano entered the debate about who deserves to challenge the current UFC lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) and former opponent, Islam makhachev. On his official 'YouTube' channel, the Brazilian pointed out Ilia Topuria as the ideal opponent for the Russian. Despite questioning the Spaniard's excessive self-confidence, he argued that the fight between the two would have the greatest commercial and sporting appeal in the current scenario.
“The fight to be made is Islam makhachev x Ilia Topuria. As much as he is cocky, as much as this could precede his downfall, as much as he is not a legend and is now calling himself one, this is the fight to be fought”, said the Brazilian, in reference to recent statements by Topuria, who calls himself a 'legend' and even changed his nickname.

Moicano also analyzed the other names at the top of the division. About Arman Tsarukyan, recalled that the Armenian lost credibility by giving up a fight against Makhachev a day before the event, in which he himself replaced. As for Charles of the Bronx, the compatriot was categorical.
“You rewarding him with another title shot doesn’t make sense (…), Charles lost to Tsarukyan, and his last victory is over Michael chandler, a guy who is coming off who knows how many defeats,” he said.
Ilia Topuria, who gave up his featherweight belt to move up to lightweight, still has no confirmed fight. The Spaniard is training specifically to face Makhachev, but is facing resistance from the champion and his team.
Makhachev, who holds the record for consecutive defenses in the category (four), is looking to cement his legacy. He has been challenging for Charles of the Bronx for the June 2025 'Fight Week' for his next defense, which already has Alexander Volkanovsky (twice), Dustin poirier e Renato Moicano. The opponent, however, is still uncertain.
