Close to returning to the octagon against Steve Erceg in the main fight of UFC Mexico this Saturday (29th), Brandon Moreno can be accredited as one of the main candidates for revenge with Alexandre pantoja. But beyond that, the former flyweight champion (up to 56,7 kg) also has the opportunity to break a personal and unpleasant taboo. The fighter has never managed to win a fight in his homeland in the biggest MMA organization in the world.

With over eight years competing in the Ultimate, Moreno had the opportunity to fight in Mexico on three other occasions. In 2017, he ended up being defeated by Sergio Pettis by unanimous decision. He returned to the country two years later against the Russian Askar askarov, and this time the fight ended in a draw, a very rare result in MMA.

More recently, the former champion faced off against his namesake, Brandon royval. Despite delivering a strong performance in a competitive fight, Moreno was defeated by unanimous decision once again. He has since bounced back by winning amir albazi in November 2024.
Despite the negative record at home, Brandon Moreno is the only fighter born in Mexico to win a linear belt in the Ultimate. Besides him, Alexa grasso also reached the top of the flyweight division (up to 56,7 kg) among women and Yair Rodriguez won the interim featherweight title (up to 65,7 kg.) in 2023.
