Alex Poatán partially criticized the result against Magomed Ankalayev No. UFC 313, an event held on March 8, and admitted difficulties in adapting his style during the five rounds for the light heavyweight belt (up to 93 kg). In an interview with 'The Ariel Helwani Show', the former champion said he was not at his 'best performance', but highlighted the strategy of avoiding grappling to keep the fight standing - an area where he considers himself most efficient.
The Russian, known for dominating opponents on the ground, found resistance in the Brazilian's takedown defenses, who neutralized all 12 takedown attempts. Despite the feat, the former champion recognized that excessive caution in avoiding grappling harmed his rhythm.

“I also think I wasn’t at my best compared to all the other fights I’ve had in the UFC. But I think I did a good job with all the conditions I had. I didn’t agree with some things, with the decision. (…) I had some difficulties. I want to fight standing up, where I’m better. So, I didn’t want to go to the ground, I was being very careful. That makes you at a different distance and it gets in the way. But I still think it was a good fight,” said Poatan.
The cards scored by the judges sparked debate among experts, with arguments divided over who controlled the decisive rounds. Ankalaev, now champion, wasted no time in proposing a second fight for August. The Brazilian, however, was emphatic and promised to sign the contract.as soon as you arrive' by the UFC.
