Facing a delicate situation in his organization and counting on the departure of renowned athletes from the squad, Donn Davis, president of the PFL, still shows that he has an ace up his sleeve. Aware of the rivalry between Jon Jones e Francis Ngannou, the leader offered the UFC the chance to meet 'Bones' demands to step into the octagon again.
“I know of a way to Jon Jones win 50 million dollars: Francis Ngannou. To decide the true heavyweight champion of MMA and the true pound-for-pound number one. This would be THE fight of the decade for MMA fans,” Donn Davis declared on his official X account.

Despite the attempt, Davis did not receive a statement from Ngannou or other parties involved in the proposal. The proposal to hold a fight between the fighters had already been made previously, but Dana White refused to combine the events so that the American and the French-Cameroonian could finally face each other in MMA.
While still in the UFC, Ngannou was expecting to face Jones after the announcement that the current champion would leave the light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg) to move to heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg). Even though he was available, the fighter had to wait three years for 'Bones' to debut in the new category and ended up having the misfortune of breaking ties with the Ultimate at the same time after failing to reach a consensus on a contract renewal.
