Molly McCann announced her retirement from MMA after being submitted by Alexia Thainara in the first round of UFC London, an event held last Saturday (22). In an interview with TNT Sports, the 34-year-old athlete admitted a lack of competitiveness in the current scenario.

The former Cage Warriors champion, who had been part of the main MMA organization's roster since 2018, did not mince words when justifying her farewell.

“To be in there and be clearly outclassed in the first round. It’s a sign that I don’t belong at that level anymore. I’m not good enough to be there, and that’s okay. I’m here to win, and if I’m not winning, and I fight like that, I don’t deserve to put on the gloves, in my opinion,” McCann said.

The first-round submission defeat sealed the fate of the athlete, who had been accumulating results below expectations. In the last two years, McCann has suffered four setbacks in five appearances — including two consecutive defeats in the octagon.

“You don’t live on past performances. What matters is the present, and I’m not good enough now,” said the Englishwoman.

McCann arrived at the UFC as the Cage Warriors flyweight champion, where she built part of her legacy. In the organization, she alternated between moments of prominence, such as emblematic victories against Ji Yeon Kim e Luana Dread, with periods of instability. At 34 years old, she ends her career with a record of 14 positive results and eight negative ones.
