The tension between Charles of the Bronx e Ilia Topuria gained new chapters this weekend. The Brazilian, former UFC lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg), stated that he has no intention of receiving the Spaniard in the division after the latter's move to the category. The rival, who gave up the featherweight belt (65,7 kg) to move up a division, responded with irony on social media, questioning his authority.
In an interview with 'EuroSport', Charles of the Bronx made it clear that he does not choose opponents, but preached interest only in Islam makhachev and stressed that Topuria is not part of his plans for the current moment.

“I'm looking for a title and today's champion is Islam makhachev. Topuria is a very tough guy, but right now I don't see this as a big fight,” said the Brazilian.
The provocation did not go unnoticed. Last Saturday (22), during the UFC London, Topuria used 'X' (formerly Twitter) to retaliate.
“Charles, you better keep quiet. You have 10 losses: five by knockout, four by submission and one by decision. You are the challenger while I am the champion, the father of the entire division. I didn’t come here to ask for anything. Here, I am the boss,” he replied.
The Spaniard's assertive tone reflects his new position as the division's new big name, after relinquishing the featherweight title due to extreme weight cuts — around 20 kg per fight, according to his coach, Jorge Climent.
