While fighting with Jon Jones doesn't leave the paper, Tom aspinall is going through a complicated situation within the most powerful MMA organization on the planet. Even though he has been interim champion for over a year, the British fighter finds himself at the mercy of Bones and the suits at the Ultimate to find out his future. In the midst of this, he demands a change in the UFC's internal policies, which, if accepted, could change his legacy.

In an interview with the American reporter known as 'The Schmo' last Thursday (20), the Englishman shared his frustrations with the delay in the fight with Jones being made official, in addition to demanding a bureaucratic change in the UFC. For Aspinall, who won Curtis blaydes in July of last year, this fight should be counted as a belt defense.

“To be the best heavyweight of all time, you only need three title defenses, and do I have one or not? I don’t know. I’m not sure. But I think I should have one because it was a legitimate title defense, but it was for an interim title, and it gets a little weird. So those are the questions I’m going to ask the UFC,” said the fighter.

On another occasion, the Englishman even mentioned the defeat of Alex Poatán to Magomed Ankalayev in the main fight of UFC 313, which culminated in the loss of the Ultimate light heavyweight belt. Despite not having a rivalry with the Brazilian, Tom admitted to having liked the result due to the possibility of a confrontation between the former champion and Jones if the Russian had been defeated.

“I’m a fan of Alex Pereira. I love his style. I love the phase he’s coming from. I really respect where he’s come from and everything, but it couldn’t have happened at a better time for me personally. There’s nowhere for Johnny to go. He’s got to fight me or retire now. If he retires, everyone knows he’s going to be avoiding me. There’s literally no other fight for Jon at the moment, so it works out really well,” Aspinall said in an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday. Adam Catterall on One on One.
