Jon Jones apologizes for recent controversies and says he will 'examine his conscience'

The North American, now former UFC light heavyweight champion, spoke out publicly for the first time briefly after the accident

Jon Jones He spoke publicly for the first time briefly after the controversial traffic accident in which he was involved, which cost him the UFC light heavyweight belt.

The North American, who was also suspended from fighting for an indefinite period, made a brief post on Twitter right after learning of the punishment imposed by Ultimate. “I have a lot of soul-searching ahead of me. I’m sorry to everyone I disappointed,” wrote the fighter.

The UFC's decision puts an end to Jones' reign at light heavyweight, which had lasted since 2011. “Bones” won the title at the age of 23, defeating then-champion, Mauritius Shogun, by technical knockout.

After that, Jones broke records by defending his title eight times, including victories over former champions Lyoto Machida, Quinton Rampage Jackson, Rashad evans e Vitor belfort. In his most recent defense, in January, he took away the unbeaten record of Daniel Cormier, at UFC 182.

In addition to losing the belt, Jones also saw his sponsorship contract with Reebok immediately terminated. The new light heavyweight champion will be announced next month, when Daniel Cormier e Anthony Johnson face each other at UFC 187.
