Magomed Ankalayev is riding the crest of a wave after winning the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg) in the fight won over Alex Poatán, last Saturday (8), at UFC 313. With this achievement, the Russian stopped being just a dream pursuer. But, apparently, he didn't stop being a loudmouth.

The chosen target this time is none other than the king of the heavyweights (up to 120,2 kg), Jon Jones. This Friday (14), Ankalaev used his official account on X (former Twitter) to fire a torrent of provocations at the champion of the category above. The theme of the 'pokes'? The extended duel with Tom aspinall.

“Jonny steroid machine was very disappointed. I beat Alex, please fight the big one Tom aspinall. Stop running,” the newly-minted champion wrote in one of the posts.

The escalation of insults did not stop there. The next post had a reference to his own name, 'Big Ank', and 'Big Tom' with an emoji holding hands, suggesting friendship between the fighters.

Later, Ankalaev's official account retrieved a post from Jon Jones May 2024 in which the American advocates a fight with Alex Poatán as a more exciting attraction than a duel with the Briton. Magomed captioned it: 'stop running'.

According to Dana White, it seems that the saga to unify the titles of the UFC's heaviest division may be nearing its end. In a press conference after the UFC 313, the president of organization confirmed that Jon Jones are interested in fighting, but are still deciding on the date and location of the fight. If it happens, the fight should take place in the North American summer.

"I Think Jon Jones “Definitely wants to fight, we’re just working on the ‘when’ and ‘where’ right now. If it happens, it’ll be in the summer,” Dana White responded.
