After the victory in the rematch against Raphael Fiziev last Saturday (8), Justin gaethje re-entered the conversations for a belt dispute in the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg). Although the possibility of 'jumping the queue' and getting a third chance to become linear champion exists, Daniel Cormier suggested an alternative to the Highlight: a fight against Dan Hooker.

During the American program 'Good Guy/Bad Guy', presented alongside Chael Sonnen, DC came up with the idea of following the original plan and rescheduling the showdown with Dan Hooker. Originally, the two were supposed to face each other in UFC 313, but it was not possible due to an injury to the New Zealander.
“Go back and do Gaethje-Hooker. It was right there, right? Why not do Gaethje vs. Hooker? If we’re not going to put him in a title fight with Islam (Makhachev), let’s just revisit what we already had. Very rarely does a fight get announced and it’s universally praised,” said the former fighter and current UFC commentator.

When discussing fans' expectations for the fight, Cormier went as far as to compare it to Jon Jones e Tom aspinall, fight expected to unify the titles in the heavyweight category (up to 120,2 kg).
"Jon Jones, when your fight against Tom aspinall is announced, there won't be a section of the fans who say, 'Well, it should have been this guy' or 'It should have been this guy.' When they announced Dan Hooker versus Justin gaethje, everybody was like, 'I'm in. ' Let's go back and do this,” concluded the Ultimate Hall of Famer.
