In a complex sport like MMA, it is very rare to witness great champions reaching the end of their careers without a single loss on their record. In this context, Jon Jones ends up being a peculiar figure. Despite having been disqualified in a fight against Matt Hamill in 2009, the holder of the heavyweight belt (up to 120 kg.) is still seen as undefeated by many fans and members of the media, but this opinion is not shared by Demetrious Johnson, who reigned among flyweights (up to 56,7 kg.) for six years.

Last Friday (7), during participation in the Espaitec's North American'JAXXON', hosted by former fighter Quinton'Rampage' Jackson, Johnson spoke about the matter and explained why he doesn't think it's fair to consider 'Bones' undefeated.
“He lost. He lost to Matt Hamill. Yeah, he lost. He broke the rules. A loss is a loss. It doesn’t matter if you win by a second or five miles, a win is a win. 28 wins and one loss, he lost to Matt Hamill. The Ultimate Fighter 10 season 5 finale, December 2009, 28, disqualification, illegal elbows. It’s still a loss. His record is 1-1-XNUMX,” the former fighter said in a discussion with Rampage, who was also the Ultimate light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg).
Demetrious Johnson disagree with Jon Jones being an undefeated fighter:
“He f*cking lost. He broke the rules…
He was disqualified which led to a loss. So he has lost before.”

Johnson acknowledged Jones' talent and achievements by emphasizing that the fight against Matt Hamill did not represent a moment of technical superiority for his opponent, but still maintained his opinion that it was a setback.
"Jon Jones Has he ever been finished, knocked out or anything like that? No, he hasn't. But he was disqualified, which led to a loss, so he's lost before,” he concluded.
Dana White requests annulment of Jones' defeat

The controversy occurred during Bones' fourth UFC fight in December 2009. Jones was disqualified after landing illegal elbow strikes on his opponent. The strike in question was an elbow known as the 12/6, in which the attacker hits the opponent in a completely vertical trajectory.
Dana White has stated several times that he does not agree with the result. In July of last year, with the announcement of the end of the punishment for using the 12-6 elbow, the bald man went so far as to speak publicly about his dissatisfaction with the decision. At the time, he criticized the decision made by the fight's referee, Steve Mazagatti, who has not worked at Ultimate events for years.

“I’ve been trying to do this since it happened. I think I wanted more than him. It didn't work out very well. I have been fighting for this for a long time. You had an incompetent referee at a time when the Nevada Athletic Commission was at its weakest. This thing (the defeat) should have been and must be annulled”, declared White.
Also at the same time, Jones took to social media to ask for the support of the organization's CEO to annul the result.
“Undefeated then, undefeated now. Dana White, we have to get this loss out of the history books,” Jones said.
