O UFC 313, held in Las Vegas last Saturday (8), ended with a bitter chapter for Alex Poatán. On his YouTube channel, the former light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg) did not hide his frustration with the defeat to Magomed Ankalayev, but avoided making any justifications and confirmed that the rematch is already under negotiation.
“Coming home. I think we did an excellent job – not just in this fight. We have been evolving a lot, learning from each other. I am very happy. Of course it is not the result I expected. I was confident for the fight. I trained a lot. Obviously things happen, but I don’t want to make excuses. I know we will have a rematch. We are already talking about it,” he said.

The result of the decision was unanimous among the judges, but the opinions of fans and experts were divided. Despite the setback, Poatan says he has not yet watched the fight, but he guarantees that he is happy and ready to correct mistakes in his quest to return to the top of the world.
“Many people have questioned it and are unsure. I haven’t watched it yet. I’m going to watch it and have my own opinion. We’re in there and it’s hard to say what’s going on. But I’m going to look from the outside, watch my fight and have my own opinion. I’m very happy, I’m going to rest, I have some traveling to do – as always. I’ll be back training soon, correcting a few things and seeing where I can improve. There’s always room for improvement, we’re always learning,” added the Brazilian, who plans to take a short break before resuming training.
The loss snapped Poatan's five-fight winning streak in the UFC. His striking, which has led to historic triumphs over Israel adesanya (in kickboxing and MMA) and Jan Blachowicz, was not enough to neutralize Ankalaev's pressure game.
Alex Poatán, 37 years old, has 12 wins and three losses in MMA. Former middleweight (up to 83,9kg) and light heavyweight (up to 93kg) champion, he has triumphs over Israel adesanya (twice), Sean Strickland, Jan Blachowicz, Jiri Prochazka e Jamahal hill.
