UFC Vegas 104 star is one of the few to pull off a rare submission in the Octagon

After the painful UFC 313, here comes a simpler card to be a breather next weekend. Roman Dolidze e Marvin vettori make the main fight of the ufc vegas 104. The duel is a revenge for the Italian who was defeated in UFC 286. But on the main card there are more names that deserve attention. Among them, Da'Mon Blackshear, responsible for a rare feat.

'Da Monster' will fight against Cody Gibson, on Saturday (15). When the bantamweight (up to 61,2kg.) faced Joseph Johnson In August 2023, he showed some originality in both stand-up and ground fighting. A few minutes into the fight, Blackshear pinned Johnson in one of the rarest submissions in MMA. This was only the third time the 'Twister' has been applied in UFC history. (see below)

“I ended up going for a rear naked choke, I tried to slide it up to his temple to try to crush his spine, and as I was standing there and applying pressure, I thought, ‘I need to break this guy’s spine to make him tap,’ and that’s what I intended to do,” Blackshear said after his win.

The first 'Twister' submission in the UFC was done by the legend Chan sung jung, known as 'The Korean zombie' when he applied the rarity against Leonard Garcia in 2011. It took more than eight years before the technique was used once again in the Octagon, when Bryce mitchell defeated Matt Sayles in 2019. (see video below)
