Winner, but controversially UFC 313, Mairon Santos went back on his statements and admitted that the judges' decision was wrong. Scheduled to face Francis Marshall, the Brazilian who was the target of harsh criticism after claiming to have beaten the American, finally acknowledged that his opponent was better during the fight in the octagon.
“When the fight ended, I thought I had won. But after watching the fight, I think he should have raised his hand because the fight was very close. The takedown made the difference. I didn’t know he had done so well in the exchanges. That’s my opinion on the fight,” Santos explained to InsideFighting.

As he continued speaking, Mairon reflected on what he could have presented better and highlighted his surprise with his opponent's strategy.
“I think I could have been better in the striking and grappling. I know myself, I know what I’m capable of. He did a good job mixing things up, I didn’t know he was going to mix takedowns with striking. The way he did it, I thought he was just going to try to wrestle me the whole time, but no, he used striking to take me down. He threw some good punches, I didn’t watch out for that. I thought he was going to use wrestling the whole time,” he concluded.
