Because contractual problems between Bellator and Quinton Rampage, Brazilian Fábio Maldonado ended up without the biggest fight of his career. However, the “Steel Hillbilly” guarantees that his fight against replacement Steve Bossé will be no less exciting at UFC 186, in Montreal (Canada). In an interview, Maldonado promised a busy duel, marked by striking and with a lot of blood on April 25th.
“My idea is to open Bossé, cut his face and everything. I want to give a spanking. I don't wish him anything bad, but I want to beat him up. Fans will watch that old Maldonado. Hands lowered, asking the opponent to punch. Punching and being punched. It'll be fun. There will be a lot of blood in Montreal. It's going to be an exciting fight. I guarantee that I'm going to a striking war”, said the 14th ranked light heavyweight, to the North American website “MMA Fighting”.
Maldonado also commented on the troubled departure of Rampage of the struggle in Canada. “I wanted to fight against Rampage. I've been waiting for this fight for 12 years, but I'm not thinking about it anymore. I only think about Steve Bossé now. That’s my only focus now,” he assured. “I will always be excited to fight because I have a goal. It's difficult, I know, but it's not impossible. My goal is to be UFC champion. I have my children to feed and I want to give them the best. So, I will always be 'hungry' to fight. I probably did the best camp of my life. I’m always motivated and I have a new challenge ahead,” he added.
Speaking about his next opponent, Maldonado tried not to underestimate the recently signed Bossé and said that he had already watched him fight before. “I saw him fight Houston Alexander, but I didn't remember exactly who it was when I heard his name. He likes to knock people out, he has eight knockouts in ten wins. So, he has a chance of winning and I can't underestimate him. O Rampage he was a bigger name and a victory over him would be better, of course, but Steve Bossé is also a great opponent”, he concluded.
