There is no doubt that Chael Sonnen is one of the greatest examples of how communication and charisma are essential for a fighter's career. Despite having a good history in the UFC, former rival of Anderson Silva is remembered more for what he did outside the Octagon than inside. Now, his talent with the microphones may be taking him to a new level of competition.
In an ironic and humorous post on 'X', Sonnen highlighted his greatness in combat sports and mentioned that the most common question is about his possible candidacy for governor of the state of Oregon (USA). The former fighter says he is reflecting on the subject, but does not have a definitive answer to the question.
“People often ask me, ‘What’s it like to be the greatest combat sports athlete, undefeated and scandal-free?’ But the question I get asked most often is, ‘Do you really want to run for governor of Oregon?’ After careful consideration, my answer is simple: MAYBE.” he wrote Chael Sonnen.
People often ask me, “How does it feel to be the greatest combat sport athlete while undefeated and scandal-free?” But the question I hear most is, “Are you serious about running for Governor of Oregon?” After careful consideration, my answer is simple:
MAYBE.

Former UFC Fighters in Politics
Should Sonnen's candidacy come to fruition, he wouldn't be the first former UFC fighter to get involved in politics. In 2020, the former UFC light heavyweight champion, Tito Ortiz, was elected to the city council of Huntington Beach, California, and later named interim mayor of the city. However, he resigned from the position in 2021.
Another case of a fighter who sought to enter politics is that of Wanderlei Silva, Sonnen's historic rival. The Brazilian ran for Federal Deputy for the state of Paraná in 2018 and 2022, but, despite his notoriety in the sport, he was unable to get elected.
