“Motorcycles are fun because they’re scary. Every time you get on one, your guts kind of pucker up a little bit and you’re like, ‘This is really scary, but really fun,’” said the former UFC middleweight champion (83,9 lbs.).

Strickland's career nearly ended after motorcycle accident

Strickland's passion for motorcycles is long-standing, and while the incident captured on video was harmless, it wasn't always that way. According to the fighter, one of the most serious injuries he's ever suffered was the result of a motorcycle accident in December 2018. At the time, he seriously injured one of his knees after tearing his patellar tendon and quadriceps. As a result, he spent more than two years away from the octagon.

“A doctor came up to me and said, ‘You’re going to have surgery,’ and at that point I started crying a little bit. I don’t know if it’s just the long battle with depression that fighters go through, but I just remember waking up like, ‘Oh shit, I hope I can fight again.’ As far as the accident itself, it wasn’t that traumatic, but just waking up and being like, ‘You’re going to have knee surgery.’ The only thing I’ve ever done in my life is be a loser and be an MMA fighter. That hit me hard,” the fighter told MMA Fighting in 2020.
