How many times have you heard expressions like “The Pelé of volleyball” or “The Michael Jordan of tennis”? Because coach Duke Roufus has just inaugurated another sentence in the series of comparisons. When talking about the hard work and skills of his star pupil, the UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, Roufus did not aim low and assured that “Showtime”, as he is known, is the MMA equivalent of multi-time boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“Pettis is on a different level. Many people don't understand how strong he is until they are inside the Octagon with him”, said the coach, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”. “Pettis fighting constantly is the most dangerous Pettis. He told me the other day that he could perform up to four times a year, easily. That's how easy training camps are for him. Not that he's lazy, but because he's like the Floyd Mayweather of our sport, with a lot of hard work and dedication. He's the guy who always says, 'Hey, one more round' or 'let's schedule another workout on Saturday.' He's the one who keeps asking to schedule more training, instead of me doing it. That’s how he wins,” he added.
