Recently, Vitor belfort went public to complain about the anti-doping policy before his fight against Chris Weidman, valid for the middleweight belt and which will take place on May 23rd. This is because the Brazilian would have taken seven exams during preparation for the fight, compared to just one exam for the champion. Weidman, in turn, responded to the comments and stated that Belfort should undergo seven more tests before the fight between the two.

The “Phenomenon”, caught with high levels of testosterone in his body last year, agreed to undergo additional tests in order to obtain a license to fight. Weidman only underwent standard surprise exams. The champion stated that it is important that Belfort undergoes several tests, especially due to the recent controversy involving Anderson Silva.

“If he took seven exams, great. I hope he is tested seven more times. Especially with the episode involving Anderson Silva. There are a lot of bad things about sport in the press, but sometimes good things need to happen for the sport to grow. I think that, from July onwards, the sport will really start to change”, said the champion, in an interview reproduced by the North American website “MMA Fighting”, referring to the new anti-doping policy in the UFC that will come into effect at the beginning of the second half.

About to make his third belt defense – previously, as champion, he defeated Anderson Silva e Lyoto Machida -, Weidman says he is already thinking beyond that and is considering having super fights in the top category. This includes a possible fight with the champion, Jon Jones. "I have Vitor belfort in mind and [Jones] has Anthony Johnson in mind. But I have had a vision since I started in the sport and it started to happen when I defeated Anderson Silva and I defended the belt, as I said I would. I want to clean up my division and have super fights. I want to fight the best guys in the world, who people think I can't beat,” he said.
