At the beginning of the fight, Holm began imposing his boxing and avoiding Pennington's takedowns. With greater reach, the Jackson's MMA athlete managed to prevent her opponent from getting closer and worked at medium and long distances with quick combinations. At the end of the partial, however, Raquel managed to balance her actions a little and respond to some of Holly's attacks.

In the second round, Holm continued to deny her rival's takedowns, but was surprised at times by attacks from Pennington, who even connected with a front kick. However, the former boxer maintained her dominance in striking and, controlling the distance and with good movement, secured the partial.

Confirming its trend of evolution in combat, Rachel Pennington achieved his best moment in the third round, when he connected his most forceful blows and managed to achieve a knockdown.

At the end of the three rounds, two judges gave victory to Holly holm (29-28 and 30-27) and one saw Rachel Pennington as the winner (28-29), which gave Holm the triumph by split decision. Now, “The Preacher's Daughter”, as she is known, has eight wins in eight fights as a professional.

After the duel, Holm admitted that his performance left something to be desired and justified his performance because he felt the pressure of his debut in the octagon. “It was a new experience, so there was a lot of pressure and a lot of things were said. I didn’t feel like I could live up to that,” he told official UFC commentator Joe Rogan, still in the Octagon.
