Diego lopes took a jab at the UFC after a post on social media. On its official 'X' profile (formerly Twitter), the organization posted a poll about who should be the next challenger for Ilia Topuria, current featherweight champion (up to 65,7 kg). Options included Islam makhachev, current lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg), a rematch against the former champion Alexander Volkanovsky, a super fight against the enemy Conor McGregor and an open option.

Annoyed at not seeing his name on the poll list, the Brazilian living in Mexico also used the “X” to mock the options brought by the UFC. (see below)

“And I’m a football player? Or what’s going on?” Diego asked.

Diego lopes closely followed the victory of Ilia Topuria about Max Holloway in the fight for the belt in UFC 308, held last Saturday (26), in Abu Dhabi. Lopes was chosen as the immediate reserve for the fight in case Topuria or Holloway could not fight. The fact that he was the immediate reserve generated an expectation that the Brazilian would be very close in line as a title challenger.

UFC Brazil publishes poll with Diego

It seems that the nudge of Diego lopes had an effect in his favor. Later, on the same day of the first publication, the UFC Brazil profile on X reran the poll about Topuria's next opponent, this time with the name of the Brazilian. Diego saw it, liked it and reposted it on his profile (see below).

Buoyed by five straight wins, Diego lopes is third in the featherweight rankings.
