José Aldo wins 'MMA Oscar' with the best fight of the year

The Brazilian José Aldo already have a date to defend your belt in 2015, July 11th, against Conor McGregor. But the featherweight champion still has many reasons to celebrate his achievements in 2014. The man from Manaus won the World MMA Awards, considered the Oscar of the sport, for his battle against Chad Mendes at UFC Rio 5.

The fight, which took place in October last year, was voted the best of 2014. The featherweights surpassed duels like John hendricks against Robbie Lawler, Matt Brown on Erick silva,  Robbie Lawler versus Matt Brown and the middleweight belt dispute between  Chris Weidman x Lyoto Machida.

Aldo's next rival also left the award ceremony with his statuette. The Irish Conor McGregor was nominated for best European fighter of the year.

The most popular award of the night, for best fighter, went to the UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler. With four fights in the year, including the rematch against John hendricks, who won the title in the up to 77 kg category, he was the big winner of the night.

Other Brazilians nominated

Although Brazil had eight nominees for the award, Aldo was the only representative from the country to take home the trophy. Minas Gerais Herica Tiburcio, who was competing for the best fighter of the year award, was beaten by the favorite Ronda Rousey. Dudu Dantas e Charles of the Bronx, who were in contention for the best finishing trophy, fell to Ben Saunders. Already Rafael dos Anjos and Johny Eduardo, nominated among the 'surprises of the year', were no match for TJ Dillashaw, who knocked out Renan Barao.

In the best coach award, Rafael Cordeiro failed to defend the 2013 title and Duane Ludwig took the cup. In turn, the beautiful blonde Jhenny Andrade, UFC ring girl in Brazil, had the votes to beat multi-champion Arianny Celeste, who performs in events in the United States.
