One of the big issues that influenced the preparations for UFC 183, in Las Vegas (USA), was the absence of Nick Diaz. The North American, who will fight against Anderson Silva the main fight of the attraction, simply did not attend the open training sessions, a usual event that precedes fight night, and only showed up at the venue the following day.

The most curious thing about all this is that Diaz went to the airport and checked his bags – that is, the luggage arrived in Las Vegas before the fighter. In the event's press conferences, the North American explained, without giving many details, the reasons for missing his appointments last Wednesday (28). “When we arrived at the airport, I thought I would prefer to sleep in my own bed that night,” he said, as reproduced by the North American website “MMA Fighting”. “I had to go home to do some things, so I couldn't get there as early as I would have liked. So I apologize to all the fans, especially those who came here to watch the open training sessions. I didn't think about it much. I was more focused on the fight. It was inconsiderate of me. Again, I apologize to all the fans who were hoping for a show on Wednesday.”

Diaz argued, however, that in fact his only real commitments to the UFC are the weigh-in on Friday and the fight itself on Saturday. “I have a deadline, which is to get here and make weight on Friday and fight on Saturday. Do the best I can to put on a show for the fans, fight for the fans, give 100% to the fans. At that moment, regardless of obligations, I will do what I need for myself. But I apologize to Dana White and the UFC.”

However, Diaz hit back at those who called him irresponsible for missing his appointment. He says he was responsible enough to predict a complicated fight against Anderson. “People want to say I’m irresponsible. Is it responsible for me to go there and get beaten up, which is probably going to happen anyway? Winning or losing. It's like any fight I've ever done. It’s not that I never predicted the worst possible scenario, as I always did,” he said.
