Dana White has caused a stir by defending the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) to determine the rankings of UFC fighters. In an interview with Kevin Iole, the organization's president agreed with the criticisms of Renato Moicano about the current ranking methodology and announced plans for a radical change in the future.

The controversy surrounding the rankings is nothing new. The way athletes are positioned on the lists has been the subject of heated debates among fans and experts, with frequent questions about the objectivity of the criteria used. Currently, the organization has a group of specialized journalists to prepare the rankings, but this practice, according to White, is on its way out.

“AI will solve all our problems with rankings. We will take all these guys who don’t understand anything about fighting and take them out of this story. Artificial intelligence will analyze the data and do a much more precise job,” said the president.

The idea of using AI to define rankings has generated great expectations in the world of fighting. The technology, capable of analyzing a huge amount of data in real time, promises to offer a fairer and more transparent classification, free from the subjective influences that can occur in human evaluation.

But how would AI work in practice?

The technology would be able to analyze several factors, such as the fighters' performance in each fight, the opponents' level of competition, their history of wins and losses, among other relevant data. Based on this information, the AI would generate a more accurate and objective ranking, reflecting the true level of each athlete.

The change, however, will not be immediate. Implementing AI in UFC rankings still requires time and development. The organization will need to define what data will be used, how the technology will be integrated into the current system and what the criteria will be for the final classification.
