The Swede, who was knocked out by Anthony Johnson in the first round of the main fight of UFC on FOX 14, in Stockholm (Sweden), he posted a message of thanks to his fans on his Facebook account. "Hey guys. Firstly, thank you for your support before, during and after my fight. It was unbelievable, something I will cherish for the rest of my life. Love you all. A defeat is not the end of the world – there are many other problems in the world that need more attention and debate than my defeat,” he wrote.
“I lost to a better opponent that day, that’s it. There are no excuses at all. 'Rumble' Johnson is not only a fantastic fighter, but he is also a great sportsman and athlete who I respect greatly for the person he is. What comes next? A short vacation and then I'll go back to training to become a better fighter. My goal is still the same. This was just a stumble along the way”, concluded the Swede.
The defeat was the third in Gustafsson's career, having previously lost to Phil Davis (in 2010, by completion) and for Jon Jones (in 2013, in the judges’ decision). The setback also postponed the Swede's opportunity to fight for the belt, as UFC president Dana White confirmed that Johnson will be the next to challenge Jon Jones.
