The number of MMA athletes with legal problems continues to grow. And the newest addition to the list of detained sports stars may surprise many fans: the former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion B.J. Penn. According to press reports in Hawaii, Penn was arrested in a luxurious hotel in the paradisiacal North American state after getting involved in a fight.

The information was released by the local website “Maui Watch”. According to the publication, B.J. Penn was arrested last Saturday night (17) at the “Four Seasons Hotel Maui” after fighting with a friend. According to the report, the police found the former fighter drunk at the time of his arrest.
According to the specialized North American website “Bloody Elbow”, the Mauí police department confirms that B.J. Penn was actually arrested, but did not provide additional information about the causes of the arrest or even the circumstances in which the former athlete and his friend were found.
At 36, B.J. Penn He ended his career with a professional record of 16 wins, ten losses and two draws. Penn was part of what was, to date, the only fight between two Ultimate champions, when he was defeated by Georges St Pierre at UFC 94.
