Rountree threatens to fire coaches who insist on using grappling against Poatan

Light heavyweight title challenger reinforces intention to venture into stand-up fighting against champion; duel takes place on October 5, at UFC 307

In preparation to face Alex Poatán No. UFC 307 on October 5th, Khalil rountree He is not planning anything other than a striking show against the current light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg). In addition to having already declared that he will not use takedowns to try to nullify his rival, the athlete pointed out the possible dismissal of coaches who suggest the use of wrestling during the fight.

“If I were my coach, I would say maybe I need to find another coach. It doesn’t make sense, I’m not a wrestler. Yes, I’m a mixed martial artist, I’m capable of doing a lot of different things. My grappling is good, my wrestling is decent, but that’s not who I am, that’s not my instinct, so why would I put myself in danger to try to secure that win if that’s not who I am, that’s not my style?” Rountree told Michael Bisping.

Continuing to speak, Khalil explained what would lead him to distance himself from one of his coaches.

“So that would just show me that if my coach was telling me, ‘Hey, this is the way,’ I would be like, ‘Man, who are you coaching, because this was never the game plan, so why, at the height of my career, would we trade everything we’ve ever done to make sure we win? Like, where’s your belief in what I do?’ So that would make me question my coaches,” he concluded.

Protagonists of UFC 307, the athletes will face each other in Salt Lake City (USA) on October 5th.
