Topuria expresses concern for Volkanovski's health after rival announces bold intention

Keep an eye on your choices Alexander Volkanovsky about possible appearance as a reserve fighter in UFC 308 on October 26th, Ilia Topuria did not hide his concern for his rival's health. Aware that the Australian has accumulated two knockout losses in his last appearances, the current featherweight champion (up to 65,7 kg) believes that the time should be used so that the athlete can rest his head.

“Listen, I don’t know (if it’s a good idea). He wants to get knocked out every year. Twice, maybe someone has to give him some good advice. He needs to rest a little bit. I’m telling you, he needs to rest. At least in his head,” Topuria said in an interview with MMA Junkie.

Despite the positive warning to his former rival, Topuria did not close the doors to a rematch if Max Holloway in fact need a replacement in UFC 308.

“My business and my job is to fight, no matter who is in front of me. I am the world champion. Before, I had my preferences and I wanted to fight whoever was next to me in the rankings, to have the chance to fight for the title as soon as possible. But now, when I am the world champion, I don’t care. Give me a name. Give me a place. I will give you a masterpiece of mixed martial arts,” he concluded.

Scheduled to defend belt in main fight of UFC 308, Topuria prepares to face Max Holloway on October 26. The Spanish-Georgian is currently undefeated in his career with 16 wins. In his last appearance, the champion knocked out Volkanovski and won the featherweight title.
