After five rounds, Machida successfully defended the UFC light heavyweight belt, but with many people not agreeing with the judges' decision. UFC president Dana White was the first to criticize the side referees' decision.
“I believe Maurício won this fight,” said Dana.
“Lyoto won the first and second round. But the third was already won by Shogun, as were the fourth and fifth. Sometimes there is disagreement in the referees' decisions, but we have to respect them. But I saw the Pride champion Shogun here”, stated the president, already promising a rematch between the two.
