When Lyoto Machida beat CB Dollaway without suffering any blows in Barueri (SP), on December 20th, he was immediately challenged by the former Strikeforce champion Luke Rockhold and responded positively to the proposition. Apparently, the interest of both athletes accelerated the Ultimate organization's procedures for holding the fight, as Rockhold himself hinted in an interview.

“There is a very good opportunity for this fight (against Lyoto Machida) happen really soon. I have been hoping for this to happen soon here. Keep your eyes open. I'm sure something should appear soon”, said Luke, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”. “This is still the fight I want. And it looks like it’s the fight I’m going to get,” he added.
