Luke Rockhold suggests fight against Lyoto Machida is close to being done

Former Strikeforce champion said that there is no official agreement for the duel, but that it is in his interest to face the Brazilian

When Lyoto Machida beat CB Dollaway without suffering any blows in Barueri (SP), on December 20th, he was immediately challenged by the former Strikeforce champion Luke Rockhold and responded positively to the proposition. Apparently, the interest of both athletes accelerated the Ultimate organization's procedures for holding the fight, as Rockhold himself hinted in an interview.

“There is a very good opportunity for this fight (against Lyoto Machida) happen really soon. I have been hoping for this to happen soon here. Keep your eyes open. I'm sure something should appear soon”, said Luke, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”. “This is still the fight I want. And it looks like it’s the fight I’m going to get,” he added.

At 30, Luke Rockhold has a professional record of 13 wins and two losses. The former champion of the extinct Strikeforce became known to the Brazilian public when he faced and was knocked out by “Fenômeno” Vitor belfort with a spectacular head kick at the UFC in Jaraguá do Sul (SC), in May 2013. Now Lyoto Machida, 36 years old, has a record of 22 wins and five losses. Former holder of the light heavyweight belt, “Dragão” moved down to middleweight and is currently ranked third in the 84 kg division.
