Eternal hiatus? Conor McGregor completes three years without fighting in the UFC

Three years ago, on July 10, 2021, the fight world witnessed a dramatic moment in the career of Conor McGregor. In the main fight UFC 264, in Las Vegas, the Irishman suffered a serious ankle injury during the first round against Dustin poirier, which prevented him from continuing the fight and declared his defeat by technical knockout.

The fight marked the end of the trilogy between the two athletes, which began in 2014. With the victory, Poirier consolidated his rivalry with Conor and frustrated the Irishman's dream of returning to compete for the lightweight title (under 70,3 kg).

McGregor has since recovered from his injury but has yet to return to the Octagon. Along the way, the fighter became involved in controversies outside the octagon, including a lawsuit for assault and an appearance in the film 'Matador de Aluguel'. In 2024, a new injury, this time to his toe, forced him to cancel a fight scheduled for the UFC 303.

When will McGregor fight again?

Away from the UFC three years ago, the future of Conor McGregor in mixed martial arts is still uncertain.
Speculation about his return to the Octagon continues, but for now, the 'Notorious' remains on hiatus, fueling fans' expectations. His return could still happen in the second half of the current season, also with Michael chandler.
