Sean Strickland, known for his intensity inside and outside the octagon, had another unusual chapter in his career revealed. During a training session with the former UFC light heavyweight (up to 93kg) champion, Lyoto Machida, the North American ended up 'going overboard' against the Brazilian.
The fact was revealed by coach Vinicio Antony, who was following the training session. According to him, Strickland, hired to train Machida's defensive takedown game, ended up getting excited and applying ground and pound, even though the objective was the opposite.

“Strickland put Lyoto down about ten times training MMA. I asked: who is this crazy person? Then I told someone to explain to him that the training was exactly for that, that Lyoto couldn't be taken down. We had to work on the defensive part and he wanted to do ground and pound. For him, it was a fight and we were paying for him to be there”, said the coach on the Connect Cast podcast.
Sean Strickland, which comes from victory over Paulo borrachinha No. UFC 302, is looking for a new chance to compete for the middleweight belt, currently held by Dricus Du Plessis and which will be put into play against Israel adesanya No. UFC 305.
