In many ways, and not all of them positive, 2014 was remarkable for the UFC. But this Saturday (20), the year in which the biggest MMA event on the planet suffered a series of injuries to its most important fighters and also signed a historic contract for the exclusive supply of sporting equipment will come to an end. Based in Barueri (SP) and starring Lyoto Machida e Renan Barao, UFC Fight Night 58 concludes the activities of the annual Ultimate calendar.

For both athletes, the duels in the octagon set up at Ginásio José Correia represent the chance to turn things around. Both Lyoto and Barão are coming off defeats in title fights, to Chris Weidman e TJ Dillashaw, respectively. With an eye on rehabilitation, the karateka faces CB Dollaway in the main fight of the night and the Nova União athlete faces Canadian Mitch Gagnon in the co-main event.

Dollaway is well known to the public in Brazil and has an excellent track record fighting in the country. In two fights, the “Doberman”, as he is known, beat the finalists of TUF Brasil 1 Daniel sarafian e Cezar Mutant. Originating from wrestling, but with a recent development of his boxing skills, CB's main difficulty for the duel is to unveil Machida's unorthodox style, based especially on precision and which mixes shotokan karate with good takedown defenses.

Gagnon is not only having his first fight on Brazilian soil, but also making his debut outside of his home country, Canada. Mitch is a submission specialist, having won eleven of his twelve victories using jiu-jitsu. Against Barão, however, he will not have an easy time. The Potiguar has never been submitted in his career and also has an advantage in striking.

With one of the most impressive rises in Brazilian MMA recently, Antonio Shoe Guy He ignored his modest record, of just three fights as a professional, and won the TUF Brasil 3 title in the heavyweight category in the first half of this year, a division above his original division. Therefore, in his first fight after the triumph, his partner Junior Gypsy received from matchmakers Joe Silva a tough test: Patrick Cummins.

wrestler twice all american debuted in the UFC and was called at the last minute to replace Rashad evans against Daniel Cormier and arrived making noise. Cummins revealed intimate details of the United States Olympic wrestling team's training, angered DC and ended up defeated in the first round. This, however, was his only career setback and he has since beaten Roger Narvaez and Kyle Kingsbury.

Specialist in the gentle art and with sharp boxing by the hands of trainer Luiz Dórea, the same as Acelino Popó and Junior Gypsy, Shoe Face especially needs to demonstrate a good takedown defense game, so as not to succumb to the wrestling from Cummins. If he manages to deny the North American's attacks, the scenario could favor the TUF champion in striking. However, if he is taken to the ground throughout the fight, the man from Paraíba will have to make good use of his defensive jiu-jitsu and attacks from the guard.
