Leon Edwards reveals plans to change division after establishing himself at welterweight

Current champion of the under-77kg category, the Englishman guarantees that he will try to defend his title at least five times

Current welterweight champion (up to 77,1kg) and preparing for his second title defense, Leon edwards revealed that he does not plan to remain in his current category for long. Despite wanting to defend his belt a few times, the Englishman said that his future will be to venture into the middleweight division (up to 83,9kg) where he will seek to win his second UFC belt.

“My excitement is to win another belt. My plan is for next year. Defend the belt (more) twice, so there will be four defenses. Maybe one next year, five defenses. And later next year, a big middleweight title fight. Six fights in total. That's my goal. Two defenses this year, one next year and then go for it”, declared Edwards in an interview with 'Sky Sports'.

Scheduled to defend title at UFC 304, Leon edwards will star in an event held in Manchester, England in rematch against Belal Muhammad |. A favorite in the bookmakers, the Englishman seeks to increase his dominance over his rival in front of his audience. The clash will take place on July 20th, in a clash valid for the welterweight belt.

A UFC veteran, Leon is on a 13-fight unbeaten streak. In his last appearances, the Englishman defeated Kamaru Usman twice in a row.
