Last Wednesday (3), the MMA news came across a controversial statement from Anthony Pettis, who would have stated that the kick that caused the fracture in his leg Anderson Silva, in December 2013, against Chris Weidman, it had been an “amateur error”. The UFC lightweight champion, however, explained that the story is not quite like that.

In an interview with the “Combate” channel website, Pettis stated that his statement was misinterpreted. “This is out of context. I said it was a basic kick, not an amateur move. I said it was a basic low kick, that he's probably done it a million times, so they took a part of the sentence and highlighted that I had said it was an amateur mistake. But I said it was a basic kick. I'm sure he's kicked another guy's leg a million times and never broken his leg before, so that's what I was saying. That was my line of reasoning. The question was whether I shoot differently today because the Anderson Silva He broke his leg like that and I said no, because he hurt his leg doing a basic kick”, explained the champion.

Furthermore, Pettis took the opportunity to express his admiration for the Brazilian. “Anderson Silva He's an idol, I respect him a lot, he's my favorite fighter in the world. I would never disrespect him. Anderson has always been a guy from whom I looked for inspiration to be who I am as a fighter,” he said.

Pettis will return to the UFC next weekend, in the co-main fight of event 181, in Las Vegas (USA). The American will make his first defense of the lightweight belt against his compatriot Gilbert Melendez.
