Confirmed as an opponent of Khamzat Shimaev at UFC Saudi Arabia, Robert whittaker admits to understanding the weight of the commitment he has in his hands. Featured in the top 5 middleweights (up to 83,9kg), the former group champion opened up about facing his opponent who had just arrived in the division. The clash, however, guarantees a title shot for the winner, according to Dana White.
“I understand the size of the responsibility I have in my hands. It will be difficult and I will dedicate myself a lot to training. I'm anxious. I had no injuries after my last fight (against Paulo borrachinha). The body is fine. I was offered the fight, even though I had fought a month ago. It's great to be able to have another tough match. It takes me to another level,” said Whittaker, in an interview with 'MMArcade'.

Chosen for the inaugural event in Saudi Arabia, Robert promised spectators a great challenge. The athlete also pointed out the dangers of his rival, who is looking for his first title fight since his debut with the company.
“He is a tough opponent. He uses grappling a lot. Uses his wingspan effectively. He also has knockout power. He likes to be the villain against his opponents, but he has honor. Let's have a straight fight and leave everything in the octagon. He's not one to give up and neither am I. So, I’m looking forward to making history in Saudi Arabia,” he concluded.
Former middleweight leader, Whittaker currently ranks third in the division. Chimaev, who debuted as the category's official representative at the end of 2023, is in 11th place.
