UFC President Dana White backtracked on his ultimatum to the heavyweight champion Cain Velazquez. On Thursday (13), the director revealed that Velasquez was expected to fight again by March 2015, otherwise, the owner of the interim title would be declared the sole champion of the category. However, after the Brazilian Fabricio Werdum having won the interim belt, Dana seems to have regretted his statement.

“What I said is that if something happens to Cain (Velasquez) one more time or if he gets hurt again, Werdum will be the heavyweight champion. There is no set date, there is no such thing as March. Velasquez is recovering and preparing. If he gets hurt again with an injury that keeps him out for six, eight months or a year, then yes (he will lose the belt),” said White, in an interview with Combate channel after UFC 180.

White also guaranteed that the fight between Cain Velazquez e Fabricio Werdum, for the unification of heavyweights, will be held in Mexican territory. The duel that would originally be the main fight of UFC 180 'belongs to Mexico', according to the president. “This fight belongs to Mexico. TUF América Latina took place here, this is where this duel should take place and will take place”, he added.
