The former lightweight champion countered the criticism and once again clarified his reasons for not wanting to wait for a possible title fight

When the duel between Charles of the Bronx e Arman Tsarukyan was announced, many MMA fans criticized the Brazilian for accepting a fight that wasn't for the belt. “I'm an employee of Zuffa (the company that manages the UFC), so I need to accept what they bring to me. If I were to wait for the title I would have only fought at the end of the year and I don't like waiting too long to fight. I would be waiting almost a year”, said Do Bronx in an interview with the website 'MMA Mania'.

From the Bronx faced Islam makhachev in October 2022 as 'moral champion' of the lightweight division and was knocked out by the Russian in an apathetic performance in the UFC 280. In June of the following year, Charles shared the octagon with the veteran Beneil Dariush and beat his rival in the first round, returning to the race for the category belt.

After his controversial departure from UFC 294 and Makhachev's victory over Volkanovski, it seemed that the rematch between the Brazilian and current belt owner would happen in a matter of time. However, Do Bronx surprised by agreeing to face the prospect Arman Tsarukyan in the card history UFC 300, which will be held on April 13th, in Las Vegas (USA).
