Previously listed as a strong candidate to challenge Alexandre pantoja for the flyweight belt (up to 56,7 kg) in the main fight of UFC 301, on May 4th, in Rio de Janeiro, Muhammad Mokayev was passed over by Steve Erceg. This does not mean, however, that the British-born Russian has no opinions regarding the confrontation.
In an interview with the 'TNT Sports' channel on YouTube, Mokaev analyzed the duel between the Brazilian and the Australian and pointed out the favoritism for the champion.

“I think Pantoja will win. I think Erceg is still 'green' and doesn't have as much experience to face him. He is very experienced. He's an intimidating fighter and tries to submit you in the opening seconds, but when he can't, he breaks. I learned this by watching Pantoja. I trained with him and I know I have the tools to beat him. Erceg has very good boxing, but his ground game isn't up to par. He just fought, he's not a wrestler and he's in no condition to work for five rounds. Every great striker, when he is taken down, cannot maintain the level of his striking in the first three rounds”, analyzed the promise.
