Brazilian is fired from UFC after bizarre incident involving bite of compatriot rival

On Saturday night (23), UFC Vegas 89 was the stage for one of the most bizarre moments of the organization's history. In the duel between Brazilian newcomers, Igor Severino carried out an unsportsmanlike act by biting his compatriot André Mascote during the second round, decreeing his disqualification and, subsequently, dismissal from the company.

After a balanced first round, Severino dominated the beginning of the second round, connecting with more forceful blows. However, in the midst of the frank exchange, the fighter had a “blackout” and bit Mascote's arm, causing the fight to be immediately interrupted.

When analyzing the mark left by the bite, the referee had no doubts and disqualified Igor, declaring Mascote's victory by disqualification. The shocking scene quickly had repercussions on social media and generated widespread criticism of the athlete's unsportsmanlike behavior.

In an interview with Kevin Iole, Dana White, president of the UFC, strongly condemned Severino's attitude. Subsequently, the fighter's dismissal was confirmed by the Ultimate broadcast.

“If you get frustrated and want to get out of the fight, there are many ways to do that. But the worst thing you can do is bite your opponent. Now, you are cut off, you miss the biggest opportunity of your life. Not to mention that he will have big problems with the Nevada Athletic Commission”, declared the top hat.

The regrettable episode puts Severino's future in the world of fighting in question. The Nevada Athletic Commission will still analyze the case and may impose additional sanctions on the athlete, such as suspension or fine.
