No date or opponent for his first challenge in 2024, Islam makhachev continues to maintain physical shape. Recently, the lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg) was photographed with his team in a basketball match with adapted rules. Cousin of Khabib Nurmagomedov, Umar also participated in the recreation.

In the images (see below), published by the profile 'Championship Rounds', it is possible to follow part of the match played by Makhachev and his gym teammates. In the so-called 'Dagestan basketball', the rules differ from the sport spread worldwide in the United States.

UFC lightweight leader, Makhachev has not yet competed in the 2024 season. His last challenge came at the end of last year, when the fighter beat Alexander Volkanovsky and added his second title defense.

Recently, Islam ignored candidates for title challenger, such as Charles of the Bronx e Justin gaethje, to sign a verbal agreement on their new clash. On social media, the Russian offered the confrontation to Dustin poirier, which shone in the UFC 299 by brutally displacing, Benoit Saint-Denis.
