Last Saturday (16), the MMA world was taken by surprise with the news of José Aldo's historic return to Ultimate. Historic, therefore, when stepping into the octagon of UFC 301, in Rio de Janeiro, to face Jonathan martinez, the Brazilian legend will become the first fighter to enter action after having his name immortalized in the organization's Hall of Fame.
In total, 33 names make up the 'Pioneers' and 'Modern' wings of the Ultimate Hall of Fame. All of them had their names immortalized at least a year after announcing their retirement from MMA and none of them, until José Aldo, changed his mind and returned to the octagon later.

Former champion and considered by many to be the greatest featherweight (up to 65,7 kg) in the history of the organization, José Aldo was named to the 'Modern Wing' of the UFC Hall of Fame, reserved for those who debuted professionally after November 17, 2000, in July 2023, about a year after announcing his retirement following a loss to Merab Dvalishviliin August 2022.
In addition to the Brazilian, the following are part of the wing: Forrest griffin, B.J. Penn, Urijah faber, Ronda Rousey, Michael Bisping, Rashad evans, Georges St-Pierre, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Daniel Cormier, Donald Cerrone, Frankie Edgar, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, all retired.
UFC Hall of Fame regulations do not prohibit active fighters from entering
Contrary to what many think, the UFC Hall of Fame regulations do not prohibit the entry of active athletes, although it makes it clear that retired fighters have preference in choice.
According to official website of Ultimate, the criteria for the Modern Wing of the Hall of Fame are:
1- Having made his professional debut in MMA after November 17, 2000.
2 – Achievements achieved within the UFC have more value, but the history outside the octagon is also noted.
3- The individual must be 35 years of age or older OU been retired for a year.
4- Active fighters are eligible, but have no preference.
