Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev criticizes duel between Gaethje and Holloway at UFC 300: 'Useless'

Current owner of the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg), Islam makhachev was yet another member of the MMA community to complain about the duel between Justin gaethje e Max Holloway, which happens in the UFC 300. In an interview with 'MMA Junkie', the executioner of Charles of the Bronx he regretted that the clash would hinder his future in the category and called the 'BMF' (more thick-skinned) belt 'useless'.

“I don't want to make people upset, but this is a useless fight for a useless belt. Nobody gains anything from this fight. I have three guys: (Arman) Tsarukyan, (Charles) Oliveira and Gaethje, but I've already beaten Tsarukyan and Oliveira. But I have Gaethje, he deserves to fight for the title now. This is a good moment for him,” Makhachev said.

In his last fight, in October 2023, Islam knocked out Alexander Volkanovsky in brutal fashion and defended his lightweight belt for the second time in a row. At the moment, the Russian fighter has no scheduled fight or defined opponent.

Current owner of the 'BMF' belt (more thick-skinned), Gaethje will put the special title on the line in history UFC 300, which takes place on April 13th. On the other side of the Octagon, there will be the former featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg) Max Holloway. The show will be held at the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas (USA).
