In addition to defending his place in the top-3 of the lightweight category (up to 70,3 kg) with his knockout over the dangerous Benoit Saint-Denis in the co-main event of UFC 299, last Saturday (9), Dustin poirier may have taken an important step towards guaranteeing a new chance for the category's linear title.

businessman of Islam makhachev, Ali Abdelaziz used social media shortly after the event to express his interest in seeing the 'Diamond' challenge his client for the belt in June, in Saudi Arabia.

"Dustin poirier took a big risk tonight, came away with the win and looked incredible. Dustin against Makhachev in June, especially since everyone else has fights scheduled. If the UFC agrees with this, Islam is in,” said the businessman.

In terms of availability, Abdelaziz's request could make sense, as the two athletes ahead of Poirier in the rankings have commitments scheduled in the UFC 300, in April: Charles of the Bronx, against Arman Tsarukyan, and Justin gaethje, against Max Holloway.

Abdelaziz was not the only one to speak out in favor of the duel. 'Diamante' himself didn't let the opportunity pass by and posted it on social media.
