Glover Teixeira did not resist the fair game of Phil Davis and suffered his second consecutive defeat inside the Octagon in the early hours of this Sunday (26). In the co-main fight of the fifth edition of UFC Rio, as UFC 179 became popularly known, the Brazilian was unable to unleash his game and lost by unanimous decision from the judges.

Davis' strategy was clear: nullify the Brazilian on his feet and take the fight to the ground as soon as possible. Even though initially Teixeira managed to avoid being taken to the ground, Davis was, little by little, imposing his game. Teixeira tried to react as soon as the fight returned to striking, but Davis never gave an opening. The 15 minutes of fight unfolded in a similar manner, with Davis striking Teixeira from a dominant position. Thus, Teixeira suffered his second consecutive defeat in the UFC, since, in his last fight, he lost to Jon Jones in a fight valid for the light heavyweight category belt.
