Defeated on both occasions that he ventured into the lightweight category (up to 70,3kg.), Alexander Volkanovsky seems to transform bitterness into motivation. Despite being the absolute king at featherweight (up to 65,7 kg.), the fighter stated that he does not intend to continue in the division he has reigned in for so many years. According to the Australian, there are big names that attract him in the weight class dominated by Islam makhachev.
“I definitely want to hunt the lightweight division. This means that if I have to fight someone else at lightweight, I will be more than happy to do so. There are great fights, big names there,” said Volkanovski in an interview with ESPN.
By continuing his speech, the champion justified his reason for devising next steps in the organization.
“It will be calmer for me. You know, I've done a great job in the featherweight division. I’ll be happy fighting with the lightweight guys,” she concluded.
In preparation for his return to the octagon, Volkanovski will perform again on February 17, in the main fight of the UFC 298. Towards another title defense in his career, the Australian faces Ilia Topuria, in Anaheim, California (USA). The Australian is currently tied in betting odds with his rival. A feat that hadn't happened in a long time during his featherweight reign.
