In an interview with the MMA Squad website, the Russian stated that he intends to fight in June or July this year, after recovering from an injury. He also sent a message to his potential opponents in the lightweight division (up to 70,3kg.), saying that he is ready to defend his title.

The president of Ultimate also did not announce who the next challenger for the Russian's belt will be, but said that the UFC 300, which takes place in April, should set the stage for the division.

The event will feature two important fights in the lightweight category: Justin gaethje faces Max Holloway, and Charles of the Bronx face Arman Tsarukyan. The winners of these clashes can qualify to compete for the title against Makhachev.
