Phil Davis, currently ranked sixth in the official UFC light heavyweight rankings, is often accused of “tying up” his fights to achieve his victories in the Octagon. However, your next opponent, Glover Teixeira, he doesn't mind if the North American comes up with this strategy for the fight, which will take place next Saturday (25), in the co-main fight of UFC 179, in Rio de Janeiro.

The Brazilian, the last challenger for the category belt, believes it is his role to prevent Davis from imposing his game in the fight “He can very well play this game, so it's up to me to win, one way or another. I'm not one of those fighters who doesn't want to be tied down – it's up to me to not let that happen. It's my obligation as a fighter. If he chooses to tie me up, I won't complain. My obligation is not to let that happen, and I'm training very hard for that”, analyzed Teixeira, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”.

Glover praised the consistency of Davis, who, despite not having challenged for the belt yet, has been considered one of the division's top athletes for several years. “Phil is a good fighter. He's a good wrestler, with good submissions. He's been at the top of the category longer than me, so I can't go easy on him. Phil is always well trained. He fights very well and moves very well. I trained hard and I want to give everything I have to beat him. It will be a great fight, without a doubt”, he guaranteed.

Finally, Teixeira highlighted that his focus is to quickly resume his path towards a new title fight, which since 2011 he has been in possession of. Jon Jones. “If I fought with Jon Jones again, I would have a great chance. I learned a lot [since the fight], I know where I made mistakes. Now I'm looking to get my way back. At my age [he'll be 35 on the 28th] there's not much time left, so I'm chasing it.”
